This is a student film that someone from my school made a few years ago, we were shown this in class to see what kind of opening we need to produce.The genre to this piece is a rom-com I can tell this by the upbeat music, colourful and the look of the text, also how everything is high key lit making the atmoshpere seem bright and fun which is what a comedy tries to do by making everyone happy. The piece is clearly going to be set in a school in the UK, this is obviously because of the way they are dressing up and the reading through books connotes studying and school. The sound used is uite up beat connoting this piece to be of happiness.
The narrative is quite clear with the 3 guys at the end walking in a row connoting their mates and the pretty girl connotes their may be some romance between them. Themes used in this piece will be some form of romance, comedy and some form of school life, we can tell this by the eating of the donut and reading of books, also the girl connotes the romance. The atmosphere is up beat and happy putting the audience in a calm state. The titles are integrated around the characters so they can be introduced also the way they look fit the genre of comedy because they look comic book like connoting comedy. The characters are clear in this piece because they are introduced at the beginning and we know we will follow the lives of all of these characters, also the fact the girl is the first in shot connotes that the piece may be focused around her.

Analysis of Film Opening: Comedy
To help give ideas for the kind of genre I would like to do for my final film, I decide to analyse different genre film openings to know what I should do for my film if I choose this genre. This is the opening titles for the film Step Brothers (2008)
The genre of this continous piece is clearly a comedy, we can tell this by the up beat tone and music. The editing is slow paced connoting it to be relaxing enjoyable film. the non-diegetic sound makes the piece already happy which is what a comedy aims to do. Camera angles used are close ups connoting it obvious to what is happening, also the use of low angles makes the introduction of the characters to be significant. The mise-en-scene such as the blue shirt and junk food connotes it to be funny and interesting. The characters are obviously going to be about 2 families perhaps merging into one because of the introduction. The titles are integrated around the scene to make us see whats happening in the scene making us more interested.Character

Analysis of Film Opening: Rom-com
The genre is clear that it is a Rom-com because of woman introduced looking all fancy in a dress and fancy connoting upper class romance. The narrative is easily seen because we see a woman exit a taxi with breakfast so we assume it could be someone about the life of this woman and connected to the breakfast maybe it is significant to this woman. We know there will be a woman character involved and she is our protagonist because she is introduced first and the fact she is alone connotes she is strong and possible currently alone and independent.
The atmosphere makes us feel happy and relaxed connoting that the film will have a slow paced editing making us enjoy the relaxing. Themes used in this piece could be romance from her indepency at the start and her journey could reach being dependent upon someone. It is clearly set in New York because of the iconic New York yellow taxi and the big buildings around her. The sound is quite soft and soother making the us the audience feel relaxed and ready for whats to come. Analysis of Film Opening: Action
Watchmen
Just a note this extract has been sped up and is actually much longer and higher pitched in the song.
Firstly this is clearly an action movie due to all the guns shooting and explosions giving connotations of action and fighting being involved. Characters in this piece is obvious because they are introduced at the end of the opening here, I know that it will follow the characters lives because this piece follows the lives of previous super heroes before them which have died and its as if we have lived all of that and is their time name, engaging us as the audience because we feel apart of it. The atmosphere this piece sets is a quite dark and murderous but the song contradicts what is happening in the video connoting this piece may be comical and also how it is not real because of super heroes and powers. The sound used in this piece is interesting because it contrasts with whats happening within the video because although it sounds up beat but the lyrics used were written about the Vietnam war and connotes how all war is the same, it tries to show us that even superheroes aren't all glamour and that death is still death and all war is the same.
